Shillong ( Meghalaya ) , May 11: Director General of Civil Defence & Home Guard, Meghalaya Ms ,Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as the new Meghalaya Director General of Police according to a notification issued Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, Home [Police] Department, Cyril V. D. Diengdoh.
She will be Meghalaya’s first woman DGP and will replace Dr. LR Bishnoi who will retire on May 19.
The Meghalaya Security Commission, chaired by CM Conrad K Sangma, selected Ms. Nongrang out of the three officers approved by the UPSC last month for the role of police chief. The other two officers recommended by the UPSC were RP Meena and Deepak Kumar,

Breaking barriers and making history, Smti Nongrang becomes the first tribal lady from our state to hold this position, a moment of immense pride for all of us. IPS (RR:1992), Director General of Civil Defence & Home Guard, Meghalaya, Shillong as the Director General ofPolice (Head of Police Force), Meghalaya, Shillong in the Apex Scale of Pay (Level 17) in the Pay Matrix for a fixed period of 2(two) years with effect from 20th May, 2024 to 19th May, 2026.
