Shillong ( Meghalaya), June 16 : Four children died after the house they were staying at collapsed on Thursday morning in Laitlarem in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya,
According to official sources, the landslide occurred in Laitlarem Village under Mawphlang C&RD Block affecting one residential house, which was destroyed by the overflowing mud.
The incident occurred around 10:00 A.M and on receipt of the information at around 1:00 P.M, the BDO along with the team from PWD, Medical Officer and Police rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
On reaching the spot, it was found that 3 children lost their lives on the spot while one injured child shifted to the CHC died during transit.
While three died on the spot, one passed away in transit on the way to Sohiong CHC.
The deceased has been identified as Wallambiang Kharmyndai (9yrs) , Banlumlang Kharmyndai (6yrs) , RibhalinKharmyndai (4yrs) Daphilari Kharmyndai (8yrs.)
The injured have been identified as Nikstanlang Jyrwa (36yrs) ,Banteilang Kharmyndai (12yrs).They are presently being given treatment at Mawphlang CHC.
All formalities have been completed by the Police and ex-gratia will be released to the next of kin of the deceased.
Chief minister Conrad Sangma in a tweet informed that the state government will release an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased.
