
Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 13: The Social Welfare Department, celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 with great enthusiasm at Lariti Auditorium, Mawkasiang. The event, themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma as the Chief Guest.
In his keynote address, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of teamwork in achieving meaningful progress and highlighted initiatives such as reusable sanitary pad units and the Safe Motherhood Program. He encouraged young girls to think independently, make confident decisions, and uphold their values, stressing that even small choices can have long-term consequences.
The event featured an interactive session where students raised concerns and suggestions on various issues, including school lunch quality, safety measures, and extracurricular activities. The Chief Minister assured the students of the Government’s commitment to their holistic development.
Young achievers who excelled in academics, sports, social service, entrepreneurship, bravery, and community leadership were felicitated, serving as role models for their peers. Inspirational talks by Miss Daphisha Kharbani and Miss Anjelina Tynhlaiang motivated students to pursue their dreams confidently.
The celebration showcased the Government commitment to gender equality, child welfare, education, and empowerment, ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to thrive as a leader and changemaker in society.
