Pynursla(Meghalaya), Oct 25: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the Silver Jubilee Celebration of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Pynursla, and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to supporting non-government schools in expanding their higher secondary sections. He congratulated the school on completing 25 years of dedicated service in imparting quality education, lauding its commitment to nurturing students in both academic and moral excellence.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure, particularly in rural and border areas like Pynursla. He acknowledged the invaluable role of the Salesians of Don Bosco in shaping education in Meghalaya, saying, “The Salesians have contributed to our state, our region, and our country like no other congregation.”
Emphasizing the importance of investing in human potential, he quoted an old Chinese proverb: “If you want returns for eternity, plant people.” The Chief Minister informed that 15% of the State’s annual budget, amounting to ₹3,654 crore, is allocated for the education sector. He announced that the government will provide financial support ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore to selected schools for upgrading their higher secondary sections.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who graced the event, commended the school for its remarkable service in education, describing the milestone as a “moment of pride and gratitude for the entire community.” The celebration featured hymns, special performances, and a felicitation ceremony honoring the jubileans. Minister of Arts and Culture Sanbor Shullai and MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri were also present.
