Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 12: Meghalaya Chief Ministers wife Mehatab Chandee will be the official NPP candidate in the upcoming Gambegre by polls.
This was announced Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma during a public meeting at Gambegre yesterday. He added that the decision taken on the basis of public demand.
While speaking at the public meeting, Conrad said that the people of the constituency will have direct contact with him if they elect his wife as developmental work is due in Gambegre and NPP will dedicatedly work on the same.
The Trinamool Congress is likely to put up Zenith Sangma’s wife Sadhiarani M. Sangma for the by-poll given that she had contested from the seat twice in the past and lost by a slender margin.
The Congress party is likely to field Jingjang M. Marak as the candidate for the Gambegre by-election who is close aide of former MLA Saleng Sangma who vacated the seat after winning the MP election from Tura.
State BJP vice president and Tura MDC, Bernard N. Marak is likely to be the BJP candidate for the by polls.
The Election Commission is yet to announce the date for the by-poll.
