Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 17 : The Cherry Blossom Festival 2024 came alive with mesmerizing performances by international music sensations Akon, Boney M, and other renowned artists. The 4-day extravaganza, held from November 13-16, witnessed the city’s largest gathering of music enthusiasts.
Senegalese American rapper Akon took the stage by storm, belting out hits like “Lonely,” “Locked Up,” and “Smack That.” The crowd sang along, dancing to the iconic beats. Akon’s high-energy performance, complete with pyrotechnics and dazzling lights, left the audience enthralled.
Legendary disco-era band Boney M, featuring original lead singer Liz Mitchell, transported the crowd back to the 70s and 80s with classics like “Daddy Cool,” “Ma Baker,” and “Rivers of Babylon.” The audience, spanning generations, grooved to the iconic tunes.
Indian rock band Thermal and a Quarter delivered an electrifying set, blending rock and blues while local talents like Lou Majaw and Rudy Wallang showcased Meghalaya’s rich musical heritage.
Th International DJ’s and international music groups kept the crowd energized throughout the festival.
The Cherry Blossom Festival marked the debut performances of Akon, Boney M, and several other international artists in Meghalaya. The event has put Shillong on the global music map, attracting tourists and music enthusiasts from across the country.
