Renowned water resources expert Dr. Devesh Walia delivered the keynote address, reiterating the importance of community-led initiatives. “Effective groundwater management requires a bottom-up approach, engaging local communities in decision-making processes. This ensures sustainable practices and long-term resource conservation.”
Dr. Walia further emphasized groundwater’s critical role in meeting rural water demands, the need for integrated water resource management, and community-led initiatives for sustainable groundwater development.
The training program seeks to enhance understanding of groundwater resources, foster effective management practices, and promote sustainable water usage. By engaging local stakeholders, CGWB Shillong aims to ensure the long-term health of groundwater resources, supporting the region’s ecological balance and economic development.
The event was hosted at NEHU’s Social Science Cluster Classrooms, bringing together experts, policymakers, and local stakeholders. As the program progresses, participants will engage in interactive sessions, discussions, and hands-on training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable groundwater management.
