Shillong ( Meghalaya), June 21 : Taking forward this year’s International Day of Yoga theme ‘Yoga for self and society’ under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Happy Valley today celebrated the International Day of Yoga at the school premises with demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol.
More than 1000 students at the school participated in the celebration, which started at 8 in the morning. Students of all classes of the school enthusiastically participated in the Common Yoga Protocol practice that was demonstrated by Yoga Trainer Ms Usha Ghosh from Meghalaya Yoga Samiti.
Principal of KV Happy Valley, D B Singh, while addressing the students said that Yoga has become the best way for physical and mental fitness and has been accepted as the best way to embrace positivity in life worldwide. Our aim has been to motivate students to get into the regular practice. Exhorting the students to take up Yoga in daily life regularly, Singh said that Yoga helps in connecting the body with mind and sharpens our intellectual abilities. He appreciated the initiative of CBC Shillong for associating with PM Shri KV Happy Valley, Shillong in organizing such a wonderful programme on this auspicious day.
Wing Commander Sreeprakash J., PRO Defence Meghalaya attended the programme and inspired the students with his encouraging words. Yoga has for ages given the gift of wellness to humanity and in the last 10 years it has become a global mass movement, he added. He urged everyone to adopt Yoga as a daily habit to better our lives. He said that concentration and focus can be cultivated with practice of various Yoga asanas. This state of mind gives great results with least tiredness and helps to avoid distractions. Emphasizing its deep-rooted significance in Indian culture, he credited PM Narendra Modi for promoting yoga on the global stage since assuming office.
Media & Communication Officer, PIB Shillong, Gopajit Das said that different programs are being executed on the International Day of Yoga in order to involve every section, class, group in the celebration and to take forward the noble message of this mass movement. Central Bureau of Commission is also organizing programmes across the country to promote Yoga among all. He added that Yoga should be a part of our healthy and sustainable lifestyle. For the past 10 years, the global celebration of Yoga on this day has spread the message of practicing Yoga for mental and physical health, well-being and a sustainable lifestyle, he added.
Inter-House quiz competition, drawing and painting competition and debate competitions were organised among the students at the school as part of the two-day celebrations.
Special sessions were also held where students presented talks on the Common Yoga Protocol and benefits of performing various Asanas. The competitions were supervised by Vice Principal of the KVK K Ramesh, Physical Education Teacher Ganga Prasad Chetri, Art teacher Ms Chanchal Srivastava and the Quiz competition was coordinated by Ved Prakash. Prizes will be distributed among the winners of the competition from the office of Central Bureau of Communication.
CBC’s Field Office in Nongstoin also observed the International Yoga Day, 2024 at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District. Ms Riba Jana demonstrated Surya Namaskar. Madam Archana Upadhyay, PT teacher of JNV Nongstoin led the demonstration with students enthusiastically participating in the celebrations. Sherief PM, Principal in charge, JNV Nongstoin attended the programme as the chief guest. The main focus of the programme was to remind the masses about the benefits of Practicing Yoga in Daily Life. Dancing and Singing Competition were held and prizes were also distributed to the winners.
