Shillong ( Meghalaya), Nov 29 : The Cabinet which met today approved the creation of outposts in sensitive locations in Meghalaya along the border areas.
The sensative locations included Mooriap BOP in East Jaintia Hills. Mukroh BOP & Tihwieh BOP in West Jaintia Hills,Rani-Jirang BOP in Ri-Bhoi, Umwali BOP, Lejadubi BOP & Langpih BOP in West Khasi Hills .
The Chief Minister said that Cabinet has also given its go-ahead to turn the police camp in Athiabari into a border outpost. This will be in addition to the seven proposed BoPs.
CM Sangma said steps will be taken soon to make the proposed BoPs functional with adequate manpower and infrastructure.
The CM said that suggestions had also come for Ri Bhoi District bordering Block 2, but we had to review with local communities to ensure we get the correct locations. Have asked DGP , Meghalaya to visit the areas and come up with the proposal for the areas of difference in Block 2.
The Cabinet approval was given after six people were killed on Nov 22 along the interstate border after a truck allegedly laden with illegally felled timber was intercepted by forest guards from Assam.
