Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 24: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya has made significant strides in strengthening border security, undertaking two major operations that resulted in the arrest of a Bangladeshi national and seizures worth lakhs.
Apprehension of Bangladeshi National:
Acting on specific intelligence, the 1st Battalion BSF conducted a special operation near Border Outpost (BOP) Kanai in South West Khasi Hills district. They apprehended Tonik Hajong, a 38-year-old resident of Netrakona district, Bangladesh, who was carrying Bangladeshi currency worth 2,37,500 Taka. This currency was intended for illegal cross-border activities.
Seizure of Cosmetic Items:
In a separate operation on the same day, the 4th Battalion BSF seized cosmetic items valued at Rs 15 lakh. A special patrol team confronted a group of 4-5 miscreants attempting to smuggle goods across the border. When challenged, the miscreants abandoned head loads containing the cosmetic items.
The BSF’s swift actions demonstrate their unwavering commitment to securing India’s borders and preventing trans-border crimes. These operations underscore the force’s vigilance and effectiveness in safeguarding the nation’s interests.
