Shillong ( Meghalaya),Aug 13 : The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has launched a high-intensity joint combing operation in the Majersora-Hathinala forest belt in collaboration with Meghalaya Police and over 200 local villagers. The operation aims to flush out Bangladeshi miscreants who infiltrated into Indian territory in the Bagli area of South West Khasi Hills district.
An armed gang of 8-9 Bangladeshi intruders had entered Indian territory on Aug 8, stormed Rongdangai village, stabbed and injured a civilian, vandalized property, and attempted to abduct a villager. Swift joint action by BSF and Meghalaya Police led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of a Bangladesh Police identity card, wireless sets, wire cutters, Indian and Bangladeshi currency notes, suspected explosive substance, and handcuffs.
The arrested Bangladeshi intruders have given conflicting statements, with some claiming they are Awami League supporters fleeing Bangladesh’s hostile political situation, while others claim they entered India for hunting Geckos, listed in Schedule III of India’s Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. However, BSF officials believe the intruders are criminals who came with the intent to abduct Indian businessmen.
The operation aims to ensure foolproof security along the Indo-Bangladesh border, particularly in the run-up to Independence Day celebrations. The BSF has deployed additional troops in forward border locations, and senior officers are supervising the operation, which includes intensified area domination, round-the-clock patrolling, surprise naka checks, and riverine patrols.
