Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 12 : In a major crackdown on smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt, seizing contraband items worth ₹19 lakh. The operation took place on Wednesday, Dec 11, in the areas of Baghmara under South Garo Hills and Kurikhal under East Khasi Hills Districts.
The seized items, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, included a wide range of goods such as cosmetics, fruits, sugar, liquor, puchka, eyeglasses, cloth, blankets, garlic, and soap.
Acting on specific information, BSF troops launched a special operation near the border, intercepting 7-8 unidentified smugglers approaching the International Border. Although the smugglers fled, leaving behind the contraband, the BSF’s swift action prevented a significant smuggling attempt.
This successful operation is a testament to the BSF’s commitment to combating smuggling and protecting India’s borders.
