Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 25 : Sunil Deodhar, a senior BJP leader, sent a letter expressing regret over his remarks at the Indigenous Faith Conference in Pynter, Meghalaya, after facing backlash from various parties, including the BJP’s own Meghalaya unit. The controversy began when Deodhar allegedly made comments perceived as disrespectful to Christians and Jesus Christ during his speech on Febr 16.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) filed an FIR against Deodhar, accusing him of making baseless and defamatory remarks that targeted Christians and threatened communal harmony. Deodhar clarified that his speech was meant to address preservation and development concerns of indigenous faith communities, not to comment broadly on Christianity.
He emphasized his respect for Lord Jesus Christ and the Christian community, citing his decades-long work with Northeast communities through My Home India.
