Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 4: The Meghalaya BJP team, led by State President Rikman G Momin and State Vice President Bernard N Marak, met with the Governor to discuss pressing issues in Garo Hills, particularly concerning the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
The team highlighted the mismanagement of funds in GHADC, which has led to a severe crisis, including a significant backlog in employee salaries. They also raised concerns about non-tribals holding positions in the Tribal Autonomous District Council and proposed making tribal certificates mandatory for nomination.
Furthermore, the BJP team emphasized the need for a State Finance Commission to oversee the devolution of funds to GHADC and discussed transferring rural and urban local bodies to Autonomous District Councils (ADCs).
The Governor assured the BJP team that he would look into these matters. The team also invited him to visit Garo Hills to review the issues affecting the council. Prior to the meeting, the BJP team had submitted a letter requesting the Governor to hold a special session in GHADC to address the ongoing crisis.
