Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 9: A shocking incident unfolded in Meghalaya’s Southwest Khasi Hills district when a group of suspected Bangladeshi nationals, allegedly including police personnel, attacked villagers in Rongdongai village on Friday night. The attackers fled the scene, leaving behind several incriminating items, including a Bangladesh police constable’s ID card, handcuffs, a pistol holster, radio sets, mobile phones, face masks, an axe, and a wire cutter.
The villagers reported that the group, estimated to be around 8-9 individuals, fired shots and assaulted one person, Balsrang A. Marak, who sustained injuries. The police suspect that the attackers might have crossed the border through unfenced areas, utilizing the challenging terrain.
A massive search operation is currently underway, involving the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police, to apprehend the suspects. Four suspected Bangladeshi national has been detained and is being interrogated. According to South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa, the investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to determine the motives behind the attack.
