Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 20 : The Meghalaya Assembly has adjourned its budget session following the sudden passing of Shillong MP Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon, who collapsed while playing football on Thursday evening. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the decision, stating it was a “mark of respect” to the departed leader.
Syngkon, a member of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), had won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by a massive margin of over 3.7 lakh votes. His death has sent shockwaves across the state, with leaders from various parties expressing grief and condolences.
The Assembly will hold an obituary reference in honor of Syngkon before adjourning for the day. A revised calendar of sittings will be circulated later. The government has also declared a holiday in all districts of the Shillong parliamentary constituency to allow people to attend Syngkon’s funeral.
