Shillong ( Meghalaya), Aug 8 : 540 new Covid cases and 9 more fatalities were reported in the state in the last 24 hours .
According to the figures released by the health department , 9 more patients succumbed to their infections taking the death toll to 1,163 .

5 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills, 2 from Ri Bhoi and 1 each from West Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills .
Among the 9 patients , 6 were non -vaccinated .
540 new cases were detected in the state on Sunday with East Khasi Hills on the top with 226 cases .
817 patients were also discharged on Sunday after full recovery .
The active cases now stand at 5,037 .
