Tura (Meghalaya) , March 6: Meghalaya’s MDA government celebrated 8 years in power with a grand event at P.A. Sangma Sports Complex, launching ₹220 crore worth of initiatives. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized “development that people can feel” – improved lives, saved lives, and livelihoods. He highlighted the government’s achievements, including infrastructure growth, fiscal discipline, and economic transformation, earning recognition from the Prime Minister of India.
The Chief Minister launched the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (₹5 crore, 98,751 students) and Uniform Grant (₹3 crore, 50,000 students), benefiting students across the state. Other initiatives launched include CM Farm+, CM Elevate, and CM Homestay Mission, aimed at boosting agriculture, entrepreneurship, and tourism.
Sangma urged unity and dialogue, highlighting the government’s focus on sustainable growth and infrastructure. Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong called for support for government initiatives, citing the massive distribution as a testament to the government’s commitment to the people. Speaker Thomas A. Sangma and Minister Timothy D. Shira also spoke, lauding the government’s achievements and urging continued progress.
The event showcased Meghalaya’s progress under MDA’s Vision 2032, with beneficiaries sharing their experiences and highlighting the positive impact of government schemes. The Chief Minister also remotely inaugurated 101 community halls and 8 warehouses/CFCs in Garo Hills, developed under the Project for Community-Based Forest Management and CM Elevate initiative.
