Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 22: The 7 th India International Folk Festival, a celebration of diverse cultures from around the world, kicked off with an inaugural ceremony at U Soso Tham Auditorium here , where the Governor of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In his address, the Hon’ble Governor lauded the organizers, ICCR and the Department of Arts and Culture, Meghalaya for bringing this cultural extravaganza to Shillong. He expressed his delight at the participation of seven countries – Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Russia, Cyprus, Croatia, Cuba, and Ethiopia – and commended the festival’s aim to promote cultural exchange and foster global understanding.
The Governor also highlighted the significance of showcasing Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage through performances by local Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo artists.
He emphasized the state’s vibrant folk traditions and their embodiment of the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, a philosophy that espouses the interconnectedness of the world.
The inaugural program was further enriched by performances from Naz State Dance Ensemble, Kazakhstan, and Bong Sen Ethnic Music and Dance Theater of Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam.
These performances showcased the diverse artistic expressions and cultural traditions of the participating countries.
