Pakistan bars ex-PM Nawaz Sharif from holding office for life

Islamabad (Pakistan) April 13 : Pakistan’s Supreme Court disqualified deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif from holding office for life on Friday, television news channels reported.
 
 
Sharif, 67, resigned in July 2017 after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding office over an undeclared source of income, but the veteran leader maintains his grip on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.
 
 

Myanmar minister to visit Rohingya camps as Bangladesh seeks refugees' return

Dhaka  (Bangladesh), April 11: - A Myanmar government minister will visit Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh on Wednesday, officials said, a rare trip Dhaka hopes will help speed the return home of hundreds of thousands of the neighbouring nation’s Muslim minority.
 
Win Myat Aye, Myanmar’s minister for social welfare, relief and resettlement, will speak with some of the roughly 700,000 Rohingya Muslims the United Nations and aid groups say fled a military crackdown in their Buddhist-majority country since last August.
 

Meghalaya: India & Myanmar Army start joint military exercise

Umroi (Meghalaya)  :  A six day India-Myanmar Bilateral Army Exercise (IMBAX) between India and Myanmar kick started here at the Joint Training Node here in Umroi  under the aegis of Red Horns Division and Gajraj Corps.
 
The India-Myanmar Bilateral Army Exercise (IMBAX) is the first ever India-Myanmar Exercise to be held on Indian soil conceived with an aim to build and promote closer relations while exchanging skills and experiences between the two armies.
 

Guest houses for Myanmarese Buddhist pilgrims in Manipur

Yangon (Myanmar): Manipur Chief  Minister  N. Biren Singh said that Manipur goverment  is planning to construct guest houses for Buddhist pilgrims from Myanmar as well as tourists and patients in the State.
 
He was speaking at the  inagural session of International Conference ‘Looking Forward: India Myanmar Relations’ here  during his four-day visit to Myanmar on Friday.
 

Modi, Hasina & Mamata , jointly launch connectivity projects between India and Bangladesh

Kolkata (West Bengal): The Prime Minister,  Narendra Modi, the Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, . Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday  jointly inaugurated a series of connectivity projects between the two countries. 
 
These include, the second Bhairab and Titas Railway Bridges; and the International Rail Passenger Terminus at Chitpur in Kolkata. The dignitaries also flagged off the inaugural run of the Bandhan Express between Kolkata and Khulna. 
 

SAMSN, IFJ demand concrete action to end impunity in South Asia

Belgium:The South Asia Media Solidarity Network (SAMSN) and the InternationalFederation of Journalists (IFJ) demanded concrete action from the governments of South Asia to end impunity for crimes against journalists. South Asia has failed to provide justice for hundreds of journalists and media workers who have been killed merely for carrying out their duties.

Confidnce Building : BSF and BDR participate in friendly water sports event In Mymensingh

Dawki (Indo -Bangla border) : Border Security Force (BSF )Water Sports and Rowing Team consisting 1 officer and 14 other ranks, returned back  from Bangladesh through ICP Dawki on Saturday.
The Team went to Bangladesh on Setember 10 last  to attend a friendly water sports event between BSF and BGB held at Mymensingh on September 15.
Various joint ventures are being organized between both the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh under confidence building measures.
