Imphal(Manipur ), : Manipur Chief Minister, Biren Singh is not in a happy mood .Reason : The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has not given an opportunity to Manipur to host the FIFA U 17 even though eights players including the Captain are from Manipur.
A footballer in his own rigtht , Biren had participated in many football tournaments and had made a name for himself. Today the Chief Minister Biren tweeted today, “What is the view of the AIFF towards Manipur, why Manipur was not given an opportunity to host even a single match of FIFA Under 17 WC?”
Biren also drew the attention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister, Rajyavardhan Rathore regarding the matter. Biren was in all praise for the Indian team and he lauded the performance of the whole team. He also said the goalkeeper, Moirangthem Dheeraj saved lots of goals during the match with Columbia on Monday in New Delhi. Not only that the first goal of the Indian team was scored by Thounaojam Jackson from Manipur.
Biren declared that the entire Khuman Lampak stadium would had been packed by fans from all over the state to witness the U 17 FIFA world cup. " Imphal has a wondeful sports complex and the residents are so passionate about sports . Its is the face of the state and soon the caacity would be increased from 25,000 to 60,000 with latest state of art equipments and flood lights ". .
He said that as an incentive Manipur government had already announced to give Rs 5 lakhs to the eight footballers from the state who are part of the team for the FIFA U 17 World Cup.
The eight players are Dheeraj S. Moirangthem (GK), Boris Singh Thangjam (Defender), Suresh Singh Wahengbam (MF), Nongdamba Naorem (MF), Mohammad Shahjahan (MF), Khumanthem Ningthounganba (MF), Jackson Singh Thounaojam (MF) and Amarjit Singh Kiyam (MF).
To further imrove the sporting scenario in the state Biren announced that the his Government would develop 2-3 playgrounds by laying astro turf in the State so that the players could play football all around the year.
CM , Biren questioned if Guwahati can host the World Cup match then why Manipur was not given an opportunity to host even a single match of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017. Manipur should have been given an opportunity to host at least a match of U-17 World Cup 2017, he added.
