New Delhi:A daughter demands, “Get 50 heads in return”
With no tears in her eyes and a face shorn of any emotion but enveloped in the grimness of grief, the young daughter of martyr BSF head constable Prem Sagar has just one demand, “We want 50 heads in return, we don’t want anything else”. Martyr Prem Sagar from the Uttar Pradesh’s Tikampar village near Deoria, served in the 200th battalion of BSF stationed in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. He had last met his family in March when he was on a 45 day leave. Even on the morning of the fateful day he had a talk with his family promising to return soon. Prem Sagar did not return but his mutilated body did arrive in a box. The whole village is seething in anger. They want revenge.
Hundreds of kilometers away, in the Taran Tarn district of the Punajb, another family of a martyr was in an utter distraught condition. Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh’s family (from 22 Sikh Regiment) is unable to believe that their brave son is no more. They cannot even believe that the coffin carried the body of their son. But in this grief, there is a united call from this border district Taran Tarn – bring the heads of Pakistanis who did this. The young school going daughter of the braveheat, Simrandeep, says she is proud of her father. “My father got martyred for the country, proud of him,” she says.
Today the nation is also proud of the bravehearts but at the same time people are angry against Pakistan for acting in such extreme cowardice. The two soldiers were ambushed while on a routine patrol duty near the LoC when a BAT (Border action team) of Pakistan attacked them. The two fell to the bullets and in total violation of all norms BAT mutilated the dead bodies, utterly disrespecting the soldier’s last pride and the ethics.
Ethics and norms have never been the rule of Pakistani Army and its other security services. A top Baloch leader, Mehran Marri said (to ANI) who is living in exile and is the Baloch representative in UNHRC, “They have been doing this in Balochistan for the past 70yrs. Now they are doing this with their neighbours. Theirs is a criminal-minded barbaric army and Pakistan is a terrorist state.”
Pakistan has been harboring some of the deadliest terrorist organizations like the Lashkar, Hizbul Mujahidden, and scores others. It uses these organizations to launch and carry out heinous acts like these particularly against India. On May 1st, there was a major ceasefire violation from Pakistani side on the Loc in the Poonch district of Jammu. Under the cover of this fire, the Pakistani BAT attacked the Indian patrol party inside the LoC and mutilated the bodies of the two brave hearts even as the rest of the patrol team was fighting the ceasefire cover as well as the BAT attack. As per the available reports, Pakistan has been using BAT for raids across the Line of Control. The teams consist of men from Pakistan’s elite services and are also said to be accompanied by terrorists. Such teams consist of four to ten raiders.
The absolute aim of Pakistan is to create disruptions in the Jammu and Kashmir and keep the democratic establishment of the state on the tenterhooks. By indulging in such heinous acts on the LoC, Pakistan is trying to attack the moral of the security forces and is also trying to put across a definite message to the terrorists in Kashmir. This attack comes close on the heels of the naxal attack in Sukma in which 25 CRPF men were killed. Probably the Pakistani strategists could fathom that such an attack will affect the moral of the Forces and create an adverse reaction in the public against the central government.
The beheading of the two soldiers has raised the emotions throughout the country and the demand for revenge is all around. People are asking when and how a decisive action can be taken against Pakistan. In the month of January 2013, the body of martyr Lance Naik Hemraj was similarly violated, the then Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj who is now the Minister of External Affairs had demanded that if Hemraj’s head is not returned, then get ten in return. Today Hemraj’s mother is reminding the government of these words. She asks, “What happened to the revenge promise. It is time for decisive war.”
This is not the first time that the Pakistan Army has acted in such a way. The list includes:
-November 22, 2016: Three soldiers were killed out of which, body of rifleman Prabhu Singh was mutilated in Kashmir's Machil sector.
-October 28, 2016: Terrorists, aided by the Pakistan Army, crossed LoC and killed sepoy Mandeep Singh and mutilated his body in Kashmir's Macchil sector in Kupwara district.
-January 8, 2013: An Indian soldier was beheaded and killed by the Pakistani troops after they entered into the Indian Territory in Jammu's Mendhar sector.
-February 2000: Pakistani terrorist and al-Qaida member Ilyas Kashmiri led a raid in Jammu's Nowshera sector and took to Pakistan the head of 24-year-old Indian jawan, Bhausaheb Maruti Talekar.
-1999 Kargil conflict: Captain Saurabh Kalia was tortured by Pakistan. Later Pak handed over his badly mutilated body to India.
