Shillong (Meghalaya): Border Security Force(BSF) once again foiled attempts by cattle  smugglers  by  seizing a truck with cattle along  India   Bangladesh  International border.
BSF troops deployed at Baghmara in South Garo Hills District of Meghalaya noticed a suspected Ashok Leyland Truck  on hill road which was  moving  towards Baghmara . The Ops party stopped the vehicle but the   driver and co-driver managed to escape taking advantages of hilly and forest area.  BSF  recovered 19 cattle worth more than Rs. 1.5 lac.
It appears that the transportation of cattle from hinterland to bordering areas is  continuing without hindrance. The cattle smuggling is rampant due to high demand of cattle  in Bangladesh for the  upcoming Eid festival. Though the cattle seized were  small in size despite that they  are  smuggled to Bangladesh where they are fed with cow fattening drugs, Moreover small cattle are easier to cross by  hum pipes even through fence. After continuous anti -smuggling drive and putting extra vigilance  along the border to prevent and curb, the BSF has  achieved  considerable success in countering the cattle smuggling .
BSF has seized 249 nos of  cattle, and contraband items worth more than Rs. 82 Lacs, while being smuggled out from India to Bangladesh on the International Border along Meghalaya during this week.
