All religious beliefs as good as Tripura CM’s views: Javed Akhtar

Mumbai (Mahartashtra) , April 19 : Writer Javed Akhtar on Thursday took a jibe at Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for saying that the Internet existed during the time of Mahabharata.
 
Taking a jibe at Deb, Akthar on Thursday tweeted: “Why are people making fun of the CM of Tripura for claiming that there was internet in Mahabharata times? They should look at their own religious beliefs with the same objectivity. Any religious belief in the world is only as logical and reasonable as the beliefs of this man.”

Agartala (Tripura) , April 18 : Adding to the list of BJP ministers often coming up with unique and bizarre theories about ancient India and Hindu traditions, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has said that the Internet is nothing new to India and that it existed even in the days of Mahabharata.
Tripura CM Biplab Deb said that the blind king Dhritarashtra would get regular updates about the battles of Kurukshetra through Sanjay, who was also nowhere near the battlefield like him and this was possible only through “technology and satellite communication”.

Centre to extend full support to Tripura : Joel Oram

Agartala (Tripura) , April 14 :Union Minister of Tribal Welfare Joel Oram has asserted that the Centre was committed to extending full support to the new government in Tripura for its overall development, especially that of the backward communities.
 
He was speaking yesterday at the inaugural function of Biju festival of Chakma tribe at Pecharthal in Unokoti district along with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Social Welfare Minister Santana Chakma. The celebration will begin today on the last day of Bengali year..
 

First Meeting of the NITI Forum for North East in Agartala on Tuesday

Agartala (Tripura), April 10 :The first meeting of Newly constituted NITI Forum for North East will be held here from today.
The meeting will be chaired by the Vice-Chairman, NITI Aayog, Rajeev Kumar and the co-Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jitendra Singh. Chief Ministers of NE States and leading lights from the region will attend the deliberations.
 

National anthem played for first time in Tripura Assembly

Agartala (Tripura) Mar 24 : The national anthem was played for the first time in the Tripura Assembly on Friday.
 
The first session of the newly elected House begun with the election of Speaker Rebati Mohan Das.
 
As soon as the House assembled at 11 and Pro-tem speaker Ratan Chakraborty arrived to conduct the Speaker's elections, the national anthem was played and all the ministers, members, officials, journalists and spectators stood up to show respect.
 

Tripura :CPM withdraws from Charilam election

Agartala (Tripura), March 10 : The CPM in Tripura  withdrew from the election to Charilam assembly seat, citing "post-poll violence" in the constituency.
Polling to the Charilam seat was postponed following the death of CPM candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma, a week before the February 18 elections in the state.
 
The party had later fielded Palash Debbarma from the seat.
 

Day After Assuming Office, Tripura Chief Minister Allocates Portfolios

Agartala (Tripura), Mar 10 :  Biplab Kumar Deb, who assumed the office of Tripura chief minister yesterday, allocated portfolios to all the nine ministers sworn-in, including himself, today.
 
Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan, in a notification, said Mr Deb would be in charge of seven departments - home, PWD, industries and commerce, urban development, general administration, labour, information and cultural affairs - apart from being responsible for all the policies and any other department not allocated to any minister.
 

Biplab Kumar Deb sworn-in as first BJP Chief Minister of Tripura

Agartala (Tripura) , Mar 9 : North-eastern state of Tripura got  a new government today with BJP's Biplab Kumar Deb being sworn-in as the chief minister.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and other senior party leaders were  in attendance at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala for the formation of a BJP-led government in the state.
 

After Tripura Rout, Debate Within CPM On Alliances Could Become Shriller

New Delhi , Mar  7 :  An internal debate in the CPI(M) on the political line the party has to follow has become even more shrill after its crushing defeat in Tripura, with the camp supporting general secretary Sitaram Yechury blaming the former party boss Prakash Karat for not adapting to changing scenarios in the country.
 
The incumbent Left government, in power in the state for 25 years, was routed by the BJP that earlier had less than a 2 per cent vote share in Tripura.
