Non-organic vegetables and fruits disposed by Sikkim Government

Rangpo( Sikkim ),Apr 12: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has not ceased to create history as Sikkim is now widely known as India’s first organic state and to keep up with this, the state govt has already initiated a move to curb non-organic vegetables and fruits from April 1 wherein no-one will be allowed to sell them or import whichever (vegetables and fruits) are listed as banned in official listing.

Unmarried Women's Pension Scheme in Sikkim

Gangtok (Sikkim) , Mar 28 : The Central government plans to adopt the successful schemes initiated by the Sikkim government for removing gender disparity, said Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi .
"I appreciate 'Unmarried Women's Pension Scheme' adopted by the state and have proposed a similar initiative to be adopted at the central level," she said, according to an official statement.

Sikkim : Bengal govt cancels transport agreement

Gangtok (Sikkim) , Mar 15:The West Bengal government has cancelled a transport agreement with Sikkim that had been on hold for over a decade. Officials said that the two states had signed the agreement in 2007 to allow free movement of tourist and commercial vehicles. As per the agreement, vehicles from Sikkim could enter anywhere in Bengal, while those from the state could only enter three Sikkim towns — Gangtok in East, Pelling in West and Namchi in South, they said.

Sikkim : Nathu La trade crosses 3.50 crores

Gangtok (Sikkim):The border trade  this year through  Nathu La .along  Sino-Indian border in Sikkim , ended  with businessman  and traders of both sides clocking a turnover of Rs. 3.54 crores.
The Indian traders exported ghee, blankets , copper items, rice , textiles and processed goods to Tibet Autonomus Region (TAR) amounting to Rs.2, 83,91,230 while the import of mostly of blankets and jackets amounted to Rs. 70,96, 750.

Meghalaya take strong position on Day 1 of U-16 Vijay Merchant match vs Sikkim

Shillong(Meghalaya): Fourteen wickets fell on the first day of the Meghalaya-Sikkim U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy zonal qualifier in Shillong today, with the hosts taking a commanding position.
At the end of the opening day of the three-day match, Meghalaya are 129/4, leading by 15 runs, after 38 overs.
Sikkim won the toss and elected to bat first under glorious blue skies, but Meghalaya's Waldora Agitok Sangma and Gavineal Marpna wreaked havoc with the ball as the visitors were reduced at one point to 50/7.

Death rides the bus: 4 killed , 41 injured in Sikkim

Gangtok (Sikkim ): At least Four  people were killed and  over 40 others were seriously  injured, with half a dozen critically   when state run Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) bus fell around  400 ft  below a gorge   from a mountain road at Ambithang in Sikkim.
The accident took place when the bus driver overtook another car  at the narrow stretch near  and fell  on a gorge below .
The bus was on way to Mangan,  from Gangtok about 70 km away. The accident took place about 1 km from Mangan.

IAF put on “operational alert'', Indian troops move to sensitive border areas

Tezpur,(Assam) : Amidst standoff   by the  forces from the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) at Doklam sector since last month   now  more Indian  troops are being   deployed along China border in Sikkim and  Arunachal Pradesh .Indian Air Force has been  put on “operational alert “, from today, according to highly placed IAF sources.
