Meghalaya : Three Garo Hills candidates fail scrutiny test for polls

Tura(Meghalaya), Feb 8 : Three candidates in Garo hills have been rejected during scrutiny of their nomination papers while all 24 sitting legislators from the region cleared the test to contest the February 27 polls. 
The candidates whose names were rejected were aspiring to contest from Rajabala and Selsella in West Garo Hills and Mahendraganj in South-West Garo Hills district.

Meghalaya : 443 candidates to try their luck in Assembly polls

Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 7: As many as 443 candidates are in the fray to contest from the 60 Assembly seats in the ensuing general elections in Meghalaya, which will take place on February 27.
“Altogether 443 candidates have filed nominations for the 60 constituencies,” state’s chief electoral officer Frederick R Kharkongor said here on Wednesday, which is the last day of filing of nominations in the poll bound state.

Tura(Meghalaya) , Feb 7: Chief minister Mukul Sangma today filed nomination paper for Songsak, his second constituency at DC office in Williamnagar, where he will be pitted against NPP strongman Nihim D. Shira.
Yesterday chief minister had filed nomination for Ampati constituency, his home turf, where he is in a straight fight with BJP candidate Bakul Hajong.

Meghalaya : CM Mukul confident of absolute majority for Congress

Tura(Meghalaya), Feb 7:  chief minister Mukul Sangma today said that Congress would win the election with an absolute majority.
“Congress will gain seats in the coming election and would get absolute majority with 40 seats”, he said, addressing Congress party functionaries at Congress Bhavan in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, where he filed nomination for Songsak, his second constituency.

Meghalaya : Another blow for BJP, top leader quits to contest as Independent

Tura(Meghalaya), Feb 7: The BJP suffered a major blow today as senior leader and vice president of state BJP Edmund K. Sangma resigned from the party to file his nomination as an independent candidate from Raksamgre constituency of West Garo Hills.
BJP has fielded Jonathon Rabha as the party nominee for Raksamgre constituency.

Meghalaya : Former union minister and late PA Sangma's daughter files nomination

Tura (Meghalaya) ,Jan 7 : Former Union Minister and NPP leader Agatha K. Sangma dressed in traditional attire with a western formal coat today filed her nomination for the prestigious South Tura constituency, which was once held by her father late Purno Agitok Sangma.
Her mother Soradini K. Sangma and her elder brother and national president of NPP Conrad K. Sangma were present during the nomination at the deputy commissioner office here.

Meghalaya : 61 candidates including Meghalaya CM files nomination in Garo Hills

Tura(Meghalaya), Feb 7 :  A total of 61 candidates including Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma today filed their nomination papers for different constituencies in the five districts of Garo hills, of which 11 were sitting legislators.

Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 7: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who is contesting from two seats in the Garo Hills region, filed his nomination papers seeking re-election for the sixth time from his home constituency Ampati in South West Garo Hills District.
Mukul, who has been chief minister since 2010, will file nomination papers to contest from Songsak constituency in East Garo Hills District tomorrow, sources said here.
