Manipur : PM Modi inaugurates 105th Indian Science Congress

Imphal (Manipur) : Mar 16 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 105th Indian Science Congress at Manipur University on Friday.
He is also scheduled to lay down the foundation stones of different projects at Luwangpokpa Multi Sports Complex at Luwangshangbam and Mary Koms Boxing Academy in Imphal West district.

From Somdev to Chanu: Nine prominent personalities from NE conferred Padma Shri

New Delhi , Feb, 27:  Nine prominent personalities, including an internationally acclaimed weightlifter, an author of adventure novels and a Gandhian, from the northeast were conferred the Padma Shri on the Republic Day.
Editor of Guwahati-based Assam Tribune, the most circulated English daily of the region, Prafulla Govinda Baruah, and educationist A Zakia from Mizoram were among the nine distinguished citizens who were honoured with the prestigious civilian award.

Manipur : Smuggled Gold bars worth Rs 94 lakh seized

Imphal (Manipur) : The  Assam Rifles stationed along  Imphal-Moreh section of Trans-Asia Highway seized 3.33 kg smuggled gold bars  worthRs 94 lakh seized  in  two separate incidents. 
According of official sources,  the troops posted in  Khudengthabi along NH-102 (Trans-Asia Highway no. 1) detected ten  gold biscuits weighting 1.666 kg worth around  Rs 47 lakh in the international  market as part of their routine check .
The gold biscuits were  hidden around “ankle knee brace” on both hands of the driver .

Manipur : One NSCN IM cadre injured in encounter, another arrested

Imphal(Manipur): One suspected cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Isak-Muivah faction (NSCN-IM) was injured in an encounter with Assam Rifles troops in Noney district, police said today.
The encounter took place yesterday evening in between Sibilong and Sinam Village of Noney district, said a senior police officer.
One militant has been apprehended by the troops after the encounter.

Manipur : Life imprisonment for rape convict

Imphal (Manipur ); The Fast Track Court, Crime Against Women here  today awarded life term for the  rapist in 2014 Heingang rape case and 20 years for two for abetting the crime.
The court sentenced life imprisonment till his  death to 3o year od  Khuraijam Bungbung, , who was found guilty in the three year old rape case.
The court also awarded 20 years imprisonment to two others Nongthombam Bocha and Khuraijam Khamba Singh, for abetting the crime.

Manipur : Sexual contact is now the main cause of HIV /AIDS

Imphal (Manipur ); Contrary to the earlier   popular belief  that HIV /AIDS used to spread among the drug  users , a recent survey  has shown that  sexual contact has now become  the primary cause of transmission  of HIV/AIDS virus in the state which is often dubbed as the AIDS capital of the country
The survey states ,while 15 percent is because of sharing of syringes the remaining 7 percent is attributed  to parent -to -child transmission.

Manipur : High intensity bomb blast in Imphal

Imphal ( Manipur ) : Rebels   exploded a remote-controlled bomb here on Monday in KoLaingam village near Nthoujam Lamkhai in Imphal West District. The powerful device however did not cause any damage and there was no report of any casualty.
Security Forces  have rushed to the spot  and  a major combing operation is on.
The incident comes  a day after the extension of the Distributed Areas Act for one year under  the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 .

Manipur :Powerful bomb found planted in Imphal shop

Imphal (Manipur):A powerful remote-controlled bomb was found planted in a shop in Khuyanthong area of Imphal city on Thursday. It was deftly handled by the bomb disposal squad, causing no harm to anybody.
The bomb was spotted on the 10th and last day of the 10-day "Sangai International Tourism Festival 2017", which was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on November 21. Police have beefed up security in Imphal areas.
The shop is owned by Ajit Patni, who sells iron rods and other building material.

Manipur : 4 PLA militants including 2 women arrested

Imphal (Manipur): Four militants including two women were arrested and arms and ammunition seized from their possession by police from Manipurs Imphal West district.
The four militants of the People Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested and one AK-rifle with five magazines, one lethod gun with 10 shells, one 9 mm pistol along with a magazine were seized from their possession, a press release issued by the PRO of Manipur Police said.

Imphal (Manipur) : Meet , Kaba Singh, Age 21 years , Qualification : B.Sc,  ; K.Moiramba Singh Age 32 years  Qualification :  M .A.  ; Th. Naocha Sarma, Age 27, Qualification : Diploma in Automoible Engineering  ; Sheikhokai Singh , Age 37 years, Qualificaton : MA. MPhil  and  the list is endless .  They all have something in common . They  are all  masked rickshaw pullers operating  at  Imphal in the Northeast Indian  state of Manipur.
