Assam : Bangladeshi national caught red handed in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar(Assam) : Kokrajhar police apprehended a Banladeshi national from Duramari village under Fakiragram PS  in Kokrajhar district of the state.
SP Kokrajhar Rajen Singh told  South Asía Views that a Bangladeshi national came to Duramari village on  Saturday  night by a train . He was loitering  Fakiragram in a suspicious manner  and  local citizens informed to the police and he was arrested .

Assam : Freedom fighter remembered

Guwahati (Assam ): Great freedom fighter and former Lt of Indian National Army (INA), Umesh Chandra Dev Choudhury was remembered on Monday by the Assam branch of All India Patriotic Forum (AIPF)at Guwahati Press Club.
Various speakers paid tributes to the INA soldier on the occasion of his birth centenary. The patriot from Patacharkuchi locality of Assam was engaged with various battles of India’s freedom struggle under the leadership of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the Indo-Burma (now known as Myanmar) border.

BREAKING NEWS :Moderate quake jolts North east, no damage reported

Guwahati /Shillong : An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the north eastern states   on Monday at 9.05 am  but there were no casualties or damage to property
The quake was also felt in Itanagar, and Agartala, besides Nagaland, the sources said.
Official sources said there was no report of any casualty or damage to property either in Meghalaya or Nagaland.
 Details awaited.

Assam :Six elephants mowed down by train in Sonitpur

Tezpur (Assam) :Six jumbos including an unborn were mowed down by a running train in Assam's Sonitpur district on Sunday wee hours. This is the highest elephant casualty due to train-hit in a single day in a decade.
The Guwahati-Naharlagun Express train knocked the jumbos at Bamgaon, 10 to 15 KM away from the demarcated elephant corridor, around 1.30 AM at Bam gaon Tea estate under Chariduar police station near Balipara of Sonitpur district in the North East Indian state of Assam.

Is China behind Brahmaputra river turning muddy, not really

Guwahati (Assam ) : Real startling news :  The water of the Brahmaputra river in Assam has suddenly  turned muddy and has changed its colour.
Health Minister of Assam , Himanta Biswa Sarma suspects that the construction of a dam or some accident in China has caused the Brahmaputra's water in the state to have abnormal deviations -- turning muddy and containing cement particles.

Kokrajhar(Assam): Intensifying counter insurgency operations against militants  in lower Assam districts, security forces on Saturday apprehended two-militants  belonging  to The National  Democratic Front of Bodoland  ( NDFB) and United Libertation Front of Assam ( ULFA)from different parts of   Chirang and Udalguri districts  in the North East Indian  state of Assam.
