Assam : IAF chopper crashes , two pilots killed

Majuli (Assam) , Feb 15 :  Two pilots of Indian Air Force were killed after a microlight helicopter in which they were travelling crashed on Thursday in Assam’s Majuli island. The incident took place at Sumoimari Chapori, a police officer told IANS , adding that Defence and IAF personnel were on their way to Majuli.
The micro-light aircraft crashed soon after it took off from the Jorhat air base on a routine sortie around noon. The wreckage of the plane has been sighted and a court of inquiry ordered, officials said.

Assam: IPS officer, suspended for RTI reply, reinstated

Guwahati (Assam) , Feb 10 : A Tamil IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, who was suspended last year for replying to a Right to Information query on a sensitive issue, has been reinstated.
The Assam Home department on Friday issued a notification saying N. Rajamarthandan has been reinstated and posted as commandant of the 21st Assam Police Battalion at Katlicherra in Hailakandi district, some 330 km south of Guwahati.

Assam : 3 girls charred to death in Guwahati fire

Guwahati (Assam), Feb 7 :Three minor girls were burnt to death and two other children suffered serious burn injuries when a fire gutted 12 houses in Bashistha area of the city on Tuesday, the police said.
The fire broke out at one house in Patarkuchi locality of Bashistha area early Wednesday morning and spread to other 11 houses killing three girls on the spot.

Modi addresses inaugural session of Advantage Assam - Global Investors Summit 2018

Welcoming delegates to the Summit, the Prime Minister said that the North-East is at the heart of the Union Government's Act East Policy. The Act East Policy envisions increased people to people contact, trade ties and other relations with ASEAN countries, he added.

Assam : Hardcore NDFB-S cadre killed in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar (Assam), Jan 27: A cadre of the NDFB-S was killed in  an encounter with security forces at Ripu Reserve forest early this morning under Gossaigaon PS in Kokrajhar district.
In a joint operation today at 05:30 AM, a NDFB(S) cadre was  killed and 3 others managed to escape into the thick jungles of  Ripu Reserve Forest, in north of Rangapara village under Gossaigaon PS in Kokrajhar district.

Assam :Major General Pratap Kalita awarded ASVM on Republic Day

Tezpur (Assam) , Feb 25 :  Maj Gen Rana Pratap Kalita will be   awarded ATI vishist Sena medal on the occasion of Republic Day . He was commanding a division in Line of control in j& k. Hailing  from Rangiya in Assam he  studied in Sainik School, Goalpara .
He was commissioned in Kumaon regiment  in 1984. Earlier he was awarded with  VSM and SM for  his meritorious service.

Assam :JFA appeals to hoist Tricolour to pay respect to martyrs

Guwahati(Assam) , Jan 23: Journalists Forum Assam (JFA) has reiterated its appeal to the people of northeast India in general and media personnel in particular to hoist the National flag as a mark of paying respect to the martyrs of our Freedom Struggle.
Defying the rhetoric diktats of some separatist militants of the region the JFA also called upon the patriotic citizens to celebrate the 69th Republic Day on 26 January next.

Gold Haul : Gold bars seized from rectum of smugglers

Guwahati (Assam ) Janauary 20 :In two separate incidents this week Customs recovered and seized 24 foreign origins smuggled gold bars weighing approximately 4 kg and valued over Rs. 1.20 crores from four persons at Guwahati Airport and at Silchar Airport here.
The persons were attempting to smuggle the gold bars by concealing  the gold bars  in their rectum. All the four persons have been arrested under the Customs Act, 1962 and further investigation to unearth the smuggling gang is in progress.

Home Minister reviews security in Northeast; data shows insurgency down

New Delhi, Janauary 17: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed the security situation in the northeastern states where insurgency-related incidents have gone down substantially, official sources said.
According to official data, the security situation in the region has improved and insurgency-related incidents has gone down by 85 per cent in 2017 as compared to 2000.
There were 308 insurgency-related incidents last year, the lowest since 1997, they said.
