Nagaland : Sand transporters threaten to stop transportation

Dimapur(Nagaland), April 12: The tug of war in between Karbi Anglong Dimapur transporters’ association and Karbi Anglong Sand and Stone Mohaldar may create a temporary cisis of sand and stone causing hardship to people involved in the civil construction business in Nagaland and to some extent in Manipur.
 
A meeting of the Karbi Anglong Dimapur Transporters’ association with the owners and drivers of sand carrying vehicles on Wednesday threatened to indefinitely stop the transportation of sand unless additional collection by the Karbi Anglong Sand and Stone Mohaldar Union is stopped.
 
The association through a communique informed that the Karbi Anglong Sand and Stone Mohaldar Union were charging an extra amount of INR 7500 without issuing money receipt while the charges at the mohal (depot) was only INR 6000.
 
The additional collection of Rs 1500 per truck illegally collected by the Karbi Anglong Sand and Stone Mohaldar Union has to be stopped immediately otherwise the association will stop transportation, informed the communiqué.
 
 
With the manyfold increae in the civil construction business sand and stone has become a multicrore trade. Hundreds of trucks carrying sand enters everyday to Dimapur and later transported beyond the commercial hub towards the interior districts besides being used in the Dimapur district.
