Dimapur (Nagaland) , April 11 :At least 31 houses and two timber godowns were completely razed down by fire at Naharbari here Tuesday.
According to sources, the fire that broke out at around 11.30 a.m. destroyed properties worth over Rs.50 lakh including household materials.
There were, however, no reports of casualties or injuries. Occupants of the houses comprised mostly labourers, who were out for work at the time of the incident. The cause of the fire was could not be ascertained till the filing of the report.
Timely intervention of fire personnel prevented the inferno from spreading to adjacent areas, but nothing could be saved from the destroyed houses, which were mostly kutcha houses. District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur member also arrived at the site of the incident to take up immediate relief measures for the families who were rendered homeless.
