Meghalaya :Ganga Prasad sworn in as the 17th Governor

Shillong(Meghalaya) :Seasoned legislator from Bihar and prominent BJP member Ganga Prasad was on Thursday sworn -in as the new full-fledged Governor of Meghalaya succeeding Banwarilal Purohit who was the caretaker Governor.

Ganga Prasad was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on September 30 last.

Prasad was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari at the majestic Raj Bhavan. Prasad chose to take the oath in Hindi.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma, his cabinet colleagues, senior officials from the armed services as well as central and state government officials were also present on the occasion.

Extending a warm and hearty welcome to the Governor, Chief Minister Dr. Sangma expressed confidence that Raj Bhavan and the State Secretariat will work together ardently to usher in further development in the beautiful hill state.

In response, Prasad expressed happiness that culturally endowed Meghalaya occupies a prominent position in the country. He expressed great pleasure in being able to work in Meghalaya and assured that he would extend all support in safeguarding and promoting the state’s rich heritage.

He promised that he would work in close synchronization with the state government to help usher in more development into the state.

Prasad has been a member of the legislative council in Bihar for 18 years. He was a businessman by profession, joined politics as a Jan Sangh member in 1967 and held various organisational posts in it as well as in the BJP. His son Sanjeev Chaurasia is a BJP MLA from Digha constituency in Bihar’s Patna district.
