Imphal (Manipur) : Despite , whatever you hear about strict measures being taken to stop trafficking of girls from Northeast India, They are still being trafficked from the region.
In yet another incident, three young girls from Manipur were rescued by a joint team of Manipur Police, Manipur Social Welfare department, Women Helpline and Karnataka Police from Karnataka.
All the three girls finally reached back home safely . Two girls from Churachandpur district and a girl from Senapati district of Manipur were lured to go to Karnataka to take up a lucrative jobs. However when they reached Karnataka there were forced to work in massage parlour and their mobile phones were snatched off.
When one of them realized that things were not happening as promised, she got in touch with the Women’s Helpline ,Manipur by calling 181. The agents while luring the girls had promised jobs in a Singapore beauty parlor as beauticians and assured them of free air tickets and huge salary package . As the girls were from poor economic background they gladly accepted the offer .One of the victims had to support her ailing father and has six young siblings.
After reaching Bangalore one of the girls managed to contact her family members who in turn contacted the Women’s Helpline. They informed that their agents asked them to work in a Spa as masseuse, giving body massages to the male walk-in customers and had put restrictions to the use of mobile phones.
The combined team of Manipur and Karnataka police started investigating on the details given by the girl and finally tracked the area .The three girls were rescued while they were moving in a bus. They were first taken to Ujjawala Home run by the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare & Govt. of Karnataka and were later brought back to Manipur on Thursday.
Manipur Helpline has appealed to young girls especially from hill areas to contact the State helpline before taking up any assignment outside the state or the country
