Shillong(Meghalaya ),Jan21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for the new Secretariat building at Umsawli, New Shillong, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, and Cabinet Ministers Abu Taher Mondal, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Marcuise Marak, and Comingone Ymbon.
The new Secretariat building, estimated to cost ₹1188 crore, will be constructed on a 53-acre plot in two phases.
The complex will feature:
Phase 1: 68 offices, a 700-person capacity auditorium, and facilities for 1829 staff members.
Phase 2 : 56 offices, facilities for 4746 staff members, and two 200-person capacity auditoriums, spread across 1.25 lakh sq.m of floor area.
The foundation laying ceremony coincides with Meghalaya’s 53rd Statehood Day, symbolizing the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in the state.
