Shillong (Meghalaya ), Nov 3 : State Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has made it clear that the State Government would not allow anyone to implement their own Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State and assured that law and order would be maintained.
Informing that the State government have been communicating with everybody that there is a sincere effort from the government side, the Chief Minister said, “Now even the Governor has ensured that he will take up the matter not just for the ILP but also for the MRSSA. These are all very positive news and I don’t think there is any need for any such action by anybody and it is something that cannot be allowed also and the government will ensure that the law is maintained”.
The Chief Minister said this while replying to a query that the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has threatened to implement its own ILP in the state.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government would ensure that all the steps that need to be taken was taken.
“We are monitoring the people who are coming in and it is something we are very committed to and that is the reason why the entry-exit points especially the entry point at Umling is ready physically and we are training the manpower now,” he said.
He further said, “Within a matter of days we should be seeing that the entry point is activated therefore that people can clearly see that there is a committed effort and a commitment from the state government side to ensure that we have a mechanism in place”.
President of the KSU, Lamokstarwell Marngar had on Tuesday stated that they would be compelled to implement their own ILP if the centre further delayed its nod to implement the ILP in the state.
Meanwhile, the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong (SRS) of War Jaintia region a conglomeration of the headmen have also extended their support and cooperation on the issue to the KSU.
It may be mentioned that the pressure groups of the State have renewed their agitations against the delay on part the centre in giving its nod to the state to implement the ILP.
The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had also unanimously passed a resolution in Dec 2019 demanding the same; however even after umpteen numbers of meetings of the State leaders with the centre no assurance has been given and the demand continues .
