Guwahati (Assam), July 20 : It seems Assam has so far failed to control the the Covid pandemic with the state recording a total of 1018 cases on Sunday out which 577 cases are from Guwahati city only .
With this total number of cases has shot up to 23999 .
Despite advisories from the Centre to put a check on the alarming rise especially in the Kamrup District and imposition of lockdown nothing positive is evident as far as the number of new cases are concerned .
The biggest challenge for the government will be ensure normalcy after the Lockdown is withdrawn from Monday in a phased manner .
Four more critically ill Covid patients succumbed to their infections in the state on Sunday taking the death toll to 57 .
According to official sources , the patients have been identified as Promod Chandra Sarma aged 62 from Kamrup Metro, Ms. Binapani Das aged 78 also from Kamrup Metro , S. K, Wagle aged 46 from Cachar and Prasanta Saika aged 74 from Tinsukia .
All the patients succumbed to the infections at the ICU of the medical college hospitals .
However ,on a positive note ,854 patients were been discharged today from various hospitals after recovery .
Health Minister , HB Sarma tweeted , “📌Alert ~ 1018 new #COVID19 ve+ patients reported in Assam today, with 577 cases from Guwahati City alone.Important to follow containment measures.”
