Assam Governor assures of total corruption free environment in BTC

Kokrajhar (Assam), May 19: Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi has assured of a total corruption free situation in the Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) administration during Governor’s Rule and sought people’s cooperation to bring good governance.

Assam ,Governor Prof Mukhi today reviewed the situation after 22 days of imposition of Governor’s Rule in Bodoland Territorial Council ( BTC). He held meetings with BTAD administration officials,including,administrator,Principal Secretary,IGP(BTAD),DIG, deputy commissioners, superintendent of police,officers from CRPF,SSB,Indian army at BTC Secretariat here.

In the meeting,he discussed on the law and order situation in the council.

Various social and students unions, and organisations including the All Bodo Students Union,Bodo Sahitya Sabha,Bodoland Students Union,AKRSU,AAMSU,ABMSU,Goria Moria Deshi Jatiya Parishad,UPPL,Bathow Traditional & Cultural Center,Baganshali Kokrajhar et al met Prof Mukhi and submitted memorandum seeking good governance and healthy development.

Notably, Governor’s Rule was imposed in BTC following expiry of BPF ruled BTC administration in the council on April 27 last.

Prof Mukhi while addressing the reporters after the meeting,said that bringing of good governance was the top priority with people friendly governance in the council. He emphasized for healthy development and welfare in the council and directed all the officers to run the BTC administration based on the principle of trident that is to listen, respond and act and initiate every effort to ensure citizen friendly governance and taking responsive approach for positive governance.

“Time-bound governance with time line for each activity will be ensured with decisiveness and resoluteness in action”,Prof Mukhi said.

Chairing a meeting with the Administrator, Principal Secretary, Deputy Commissioners, IG,DIG, Superintendents of Police of the BTAD, Additional PCCF, Army, CRPF and SSB at Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) Secretariat,Mukhi has urged them to work for the welfare of the public and take utmost care so that no laxity creeps in the administrative machinery which might act as a deterrent in ensuring a citizen friendly administration.

Mukhi also informed that till date election model code of conduct is inforce in the council as the elections has been just postponed and not cancelled.He said that re-notification of BTC election would be notified when COVID-19 situation is normalised in the state and immediately elections would be conducted after election commission announces the fresh dates of polling.

He said that Governor’s Rule will continue till completion of the BTC elections in the council.

Commenting on the COVID-19 pandemic he said that it has a cascading effect on the economy of the nation and many migrant workers who will be coming back to BTAD would loose their jobs.
Prof Mukhi said the council administration in the BTAD must prepare a roadmap to use skill training for the workers to catapult the development of the BTAD and consider them as an asset and not a liability.

A four member delegation of ABSU led by its president Dipen Boro met Prof Mukhi and submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging him to ensure a good governance in the council to pave way for healthy development and welfare amongst the society.

ABSU president Dipen Boro said that the students union always wants peace and integrity , development and welfare amongst the society in the council area.

A three member delegation team of United People’s Party Liberal(UPPL) led by its party vice president Rwngwra Narzary met Governor Mukhi and urged him for initiating a good governance in the council.
“UPPL want people’s friendly governance in BTAD during the governor’s rule.We met Governor Mukhi and submitted a memorandum to him seeking healthy rule in BTAD region”,said Narzary.

He informed that his party also sought for early conduct of BTC election to elect public representatives.
