Meghalaya : Flood Relief Camp by Rotract Club of NEHU

Selsella(Meghalaya ) , August 01 : A Flood Relief Campaign was organized by the Rotaract Club of NEHU at Haribanga Village in Selsella Tehsil, in West Garo Hills here .

The campaign was supported by Rotary Club of Orchid City ,Shillong Saindur Enviro Pvt. Ltd., and with contributions from faculty, staffs, research scholars and students of North-Eastern Hill University as well as from a few individuals .

On Wednesday, the representatives of the Club visited Haribanga Village and distributed the relief materials to the households of the flood affected villages.

The relief materials distributed to more than 200 households included rice, dal, salt packet, milk packet, biscuits, soaps, fast card bleaching powder and clothes.

In addition to this, 200 sanitary napkin packets were also distributed to the women in the village. All the relief materials were distributed in SE Organic Bags.
Meanwhile, 3 persons including a child was killed and around 1.55 lakh people have been affected in the flood in the West Garo Hills in Meghalaya.

A teenager was drowned in the flood water at Monabari village under Betasing block, Meghalaya.

The incident occured after a 71-year-old woman along with her child was drowned in the deluge outside their home in the localities of Fakirpara and Daspara of Mahendraganj town.

Flood struck the Garo Hills on July 16, inundating as many as 40 villages in the Mahendraganj, Zikzak region.

The district administration has set up 42 relief camps, where over 15,000 people are taking shelter.

The Meghalaya government has sought assistance from the Centre in order to tackle the flood situation.
