Dimapur (Nagaland), May 25 : Two Assam Rifles men were killed and four others were injured today after militants ambushed their convoy near the Nagaland-Assam border.
According to defence sources ,the incident took place around 1 p.m. when some militants ambushed a convoy of the AR at a location between Ukha and Tobu village in Nagaland’s Mon district. Two jawans were killed on the spot while four others were injured.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelen K the incident took place at a place called Changlangshu.
Thavaseelen said that a similar attack took place on Assam Rifles jawans at the same place in 2015, leaving nine dead.
Meanwhile, the government launched a massive counter-insurgency operation in Tirap district. Union Minister Rajnath Singh has termed it as an “outrageous attempt” to disturb peace in the northeast.
“Whoever did this will be booked in accordance with the law. A search operation is on, but we are yet to get any details on the matter,” news agency ANI quoted Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as saying late in the evening.
