Manipur : Three injured in grenade blast inside Manipur Assembly Complex

Imphal (Manipur), Nov 17 : Three security persons were injured Friday when a hand grenade exploded inside the Manipur Legislative Assembly Complex exploded.

Among the injured were two police personnel and a BSF soldier. Though security had been tightened in the capital ahead of  the Manipur Sangai Festival, the miscreants managed to hurl the grenade and escape from the spot.

Police said that the blast took place around 5.55 pm inside the main gate when a hand grenade was hurled from outside the western wall of Assembly complex.

At the time of the incident the Manipur assembly was being guarded by Manipur police and personnel from the 54th battalion of the BSF.

The injured have been identified as Maibam Manoranjan, Yambem Johny and R P Mishra of BSF. They were rushed to RIMS for treatment and are reported to be stable and out of danger.

Top police officials including DGP Manipur, L M Khaute rushed to the blast site. Meanwhile no rebel groups has taken responsibility for the attack.

This is the second attack the capital city within a span of a month targeting police personnel . On Oct 20 last , banned UNLF attacked a CRPF truck in Imphal’s Nagamapal area  killing a CRPF personnel.
