Imphal (Manipur) , Nov 11 : Manipur celebrated Ningol Chakouba Festival with traditional fervour. The festival is considered to be the biggest festival of the state which strengthens the bond between brothers and married sisters. During the fest brothers host the finest feast for their married sisters. Married sisters come to their parental house with their children adorning the finest traditional dresses.
With the change of time, the Ningol Chakouba festival is also organised by various civil society organisations and also by brothers of Villages jointly. In Langdamei Villlage of Noney district brothers of Samper Clan invited their sisters who had married to different communities.
Around 29 married women came and took blessing from their brothers after having a grand feast.
United People’ Front (UPF) Manipur in hands with Indigenous Minority Socio-Cultural Organisation , Manipur (IMSCOM) also celebrated the Ningol Chakouba at Sana Konung Palace compound.
Khwairamband Keithel, the biggest Market was crowded with thousands of parents, brothers to buy the best gifts and the best edible items for their daughters and sisters who had left and started a new life with their in-laws.
Starting from Maharani Bridge at Nagamapal towards Khwairamband Keithel till Rupmahal Theatre hall in BT road the entire stretch was crowded with people. Traffic police had face hard time to control the movement of the crowd and vehicles had to be diverted for the conveniences of the pedestrians.
A day ahead of the Manipur’s biggest festival Ningol Chakouba , Lamjingba Group , organised a Fish Farmers festival at TRAU Ground at Tiddim Road.
Over 70 stalls were opened and rare indigenous fish including Pengba , Ngaton etc. were made available.
