Guwahati (Assam), Nov 2 :The United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) has denied its involvement in the incident.
In a press statement ULFA (I) stated: ‘We, the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) would like to make it clear to all concern authorties that that our organization does not have involvement in the firing incident that occurred on 1st November, 2018 at Sadiya Saikhowaghat in Tinsukia district.’
The statement was signed by Romel Asom, a member of the publicitiy department of the banned militant outfit.
Earlier Police Sources suspected that it was the handiwork of the ULFA-I that killed five people belonging to a particular community in Tinsukia district on Thursday at Dhola in Tinsukia dstrict .
The lone person and eyewitness to the incident who gave a slip and escaped death told South Asia Views that around 5 to 6 people in battle fatigue came to a shop and asked them to come out as they had something important to speak . He said while they were speaking among themselves in the local Assamese language they asked them to come out in Hindi .
The incident had taken place at 8 pm at a place around 2km from Saikhowa poiice station.
Meanwhile, tension prevails in Tinsukia after a 12-hour Tinsukia district bandh has been called by the Tinsukia district Samiti of All Assam Bengali Youth Students’ Federation today to protest the killing of the the five persons . Students and general public came out to the streets to ensure the success of the bandh .
Assam Chief Minister , Sarbananda Sonowal have asked all Deputy Commissoners and superintendents to be on alert .
