National Games 2022 : Stadium for differently abled to be set up in Meghalaya

Shillong (Meghalaya) , Oct 26 : Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot  announced that a stadium of international standard for differently abled persons will be set up in Meghalaya, reported news agency PTI.

The stadium will be constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore.

Gehlot said his ministry intends to set up national sports stadium in five states across the country for the differently abled persons and Meghalaya is one of the states, the report said .

The report quoted him saying that this was decided after Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma approached him with a proposal and also provided 50 acres of land for the same.

The Union minister informed that the detail project report (DPR) will be prepared very soon and that the stadium, which will be of international standard, should come up before National Games 2022.

The Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister said his ministry will set up a Composite regional centre in Meghalaya, which will start work once the space is made available.

The report quoted Chief Minister Conrad Sangma saying that the idea of setting up a stadium started three to four months back when he had met the Union minister and discussed an array of issues and received good response and support.

He said that this stadium will also be put to use during the National Games 2022 and the state is lucky to have such a stadium.
