Kokrajhar(Assam),Oct 11 : Noted academician and former principal of Debargaon HS School, and adviser of Bodoand People’s Front( BPF) , Karendra Nath Brahma passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Guwahati after a prolonged illness.
He was 76.
Various organisations ,parties, the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU),BPF,Bodo sahitya Sabha,BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary,Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma, have expressed their grief and mourned the death Karendra Nath Brahma.
BPF party leaders,relatives and well wishers irrespective of their caste and community gathered at his residence in Kokrajhar town near BTC Secretariat on Thursday morning to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
His last rites would be performed at his native village Owabari this afternoon.
Brahma who was ailing for sometime was admitted at a hospital in Guwahati in a critical condition on Sept 26 last and was confined ICU till his death.
He is survived by three daughters and his wife. He was very popular among the people of the region and was associated with many social organisations at the time of his demise .
Brahma was the founder president of All Bodo Employee’s Federation(ABEF), first chairnan of Central Selection Board(CSB), BTC, founder and Policy Making Body (PMB) member of BPF and Chairperson of Assam Wholesale Co operative Society, Kokrajhar.
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary has expressed deep shock over his death . He said with his death that BTAD region has lost a great leader.
Former Rajya Sabha MP and UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma,ABWWF,ABEF,Goria Moria Desi Jatiya Parishad have expressed their deep condolences and mourned his death.
The mortal remains of Late Brahma was brought to Debargaon HS school this morning where students,teachers and well wishers paid their last respects .
Later today ,his body will be taken to Haltugaon Tinali BPF party office, BPF central committee office at Kokrajhar , Assam Wholesale Cooperative Society, Kokrajhar office and Owabari village for the people to pay their last respects.
Minister, P. R. Brahma while offering her last respects to late Brahma termed him as a leader of good quality,who stood for healthy society and integration.She said with his death the Bodo society has lost a great academician and a prolific orator .
The All Bodo Students Union ( ABSU) has also expressed their deep condolences at his demise.
