Assam : Kamrup Rural announced as Open Defecation Free District

Guwahati (Assam), Oct 2 : On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Swacch Bharat Divas, Swacch Bharat Mission (Gramin) Assam organized the closing ceremony of Swacchata Hi Seva at Numalijalah Parade Ground,here today .

This sanitation campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva” was launched nation-wide on Sept 15 last PM Narendra Modi.
‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ was launched last year for the first time, with the objective of intensifying focus on creating an environment of cleanliness across the country in the spirit of a Jan Andolan.

In its fourth year since inception, Swachh Bharat Mission has taken big strides and has become a people’s movement. From construction of toilets to focusing on the importance of social behavioural change, the various initiatives undertaken by Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Assam has made palpable changes in the overall sanitation scenario of Assam.

Minister, PHED Rihon Daimari said, “Today we have announced another 9 districts as ODF with tremendous efforts of all communities of the state and officials of PHE. This gives us immense pleasure that we are so near to Gandhi ji’s dream of a Clean India.”

The campaign culminated today as a precursor to the birth anniversary celebrations of the ‘Father of our Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi and also to mark the celebration of the 4th anniversary of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’
