Imphal (Manipur) ,Sept 30 : Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has turned down the invitation of Manipur Chief Minister to hold talk over the issues of Manipur University. The invitation was sent to the office bearers of the MUTA by the Secretary to the Chief Minister .
The MUTA said that talks between them and government may be possible only if the arrested faculty members and students are released without any conditions and withdrawal of the FIR lodged against the members of the University Community.
The MUTA also stated that how could they hold meeting with the government when the faculty members, staffs and the students are being chased by the state police.
“Stop the arrest of the teachers, staffs and students and remove all the security forces from the University campus, then only we may consider “, a MUTA representative told South Asia Views.
The Chief Minister has been reiterating that all must join our hands together to bring an amicable solution to the issue and maintaing that the government is open to hold meetings with the representatives of MUTA, MUSA and MUSU for a fruitful dialogue to bring an end to the MU row.
He stated that the government had invited the MU community for talks but they turned it down for their own reasons.
In the meantime, the government has decided to send another invitation when they are ready for talks so that the 3 months long agitation comes to an end. He said that he is confident that the MUTA, MUSU and MUSA would hear the earnest appeal of the government to restore normalcy in the University.
