Manipur : Vice Chancellor A.P. Pandey placed under Supension

Imphal(Manipur) ,Sept 18 : Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof. AP Pandey has been put under suspension till the completion of the enquiry by the President of India in the capacity as Visitor of Manipur University with effect from yesterday.

An order of the MHRD signed by Deputy secretary to the Govt. of India , Surat Singh stated – “ the President of India in his capacity as visitor of the Manipur University on consideration of material on record and taking the account volatile law and order situation in the campus of Manipur University and in exercise of the powers conferred on him under provision of statute 13(1) of the statute of Manipur University Act , 2005 and with section 16 of the general Clause Act , 1897 is pleased to place Prof. Adya Pandey, Vice Chancellor under suspension with immediate effect and till completion of the enquiry and action to be taken thereon in the interest of justice for free and fair enquiry or till further order”.

The order was issued yesterday after sequence of events that took place by the action of AP Pandey which deteriorated the atmosphere of the entire University.

On Sunday the Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA), Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Manipur University Staffs’ Association (MUSA) had filed a written statement in the form of an affidavit along with 31 supporting documents

Some students also filed statements in the form of affidavits after taking permission from the enquiry committee.

The two member Independent enquiry committee comprises of Justice T. Nandakumar Singh as Chairman and Prof. MK Choudhary as member.

The two member Independent Enquiry Committee constituted by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, have asked Prof. Pandey to submit written statement in the form of Affidavit within September 24.

The committee also asked the Prof Pandey to appear in person before the Committee on September 26, 27 and 28. Witnesses will be recorded on the mentioned days and the Professor’s appearance is a must, a source said.

Meanwhile, hearing of the case filed by Prof. A P Pandey at Manipur High Court has been deferred till September 28 next . Details of the hearing could not be obtained right now but source said that the divisional bench which is hearing the case could not proceed as Prof. A P Pandey had also filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) at the Supreme Court.
