Imphal(Manipur) , Aug31 : After a lull of over 6 months, the Scheduled tribe Demand Committee of Manipur ( STDCM) have finally set their deadline to the government to fulfil their long pending demand as agreed between the committee and the government. The committee had held series of meetings with the government for fulfilling their demands .
The committee has been demanding inclusion of Meitei community in Schedule tribe list and was assured that the matter would be refered to the central government. The state government had even formed a committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Y. Joykumar and to be assisted by Power Minister Th. Bishwajit to look into the matter .
The committee has been waiting for the government to respond to their demands and did not put much pressure as the government had not even completed a year . Now , since one year has passed the STDCM is looking forward to a positive response from the government for inclusion of Meitei community to the Scheduled Tribe List .
While addressing a press conference here today The STDC general secretary said that the STDCM had set a deadline on September 15 last year to give a positive response to the demand failing which the committee would be forced to ban construction of the new Railway station in the state and warned that in case of any untoward incident the government must take full responsibility .
