Nagaland : Vajpayee was the first leader who recognised the unique history and situation of the Nagas: NSCN (IM)

Dimapur (Nagaland), Aug 17 : Militant outfit, Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) NSCN(IM), which is in peace talks with the Centre ,has condoled the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee stating that he was a an outstanding leader par excellence.

Terming him as a great leader the NSCN (IM) , said that ” he could understand the Nagas and was committed in finding an honourable settlement of Naga problem ” and that ” it was during his leadership the unique history and the situation of the Nagas was officially recognised by the Indian government on July 11, 2002.

Meanwhile as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister… the Government has announced seven-day state mourning from August 16-22, both days inclusive,” informed an official statement released by the state government via DIPR.

“All Government Offices, educational institutions, both Government and Private, will remain closed on August 17 as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary,” it said.

“The national flag would be flown at half mast for seven days and there will be no official entertainment during the period of the state mourning,” it added.
