Manipur : Breakthrough in MU Crisis, Agitation temporarily suspended

Imphal (Manipur) , Aug 16 : With the impasse at the Manipur University having crossed over 70 days now a memorandum of agreement was signed between government of Manipur and the management of Manipur university today.

The joint meeting had MUSU,MUSA and MUTA representatives on one side and G.C.Housur, joint secretary,MHRD government of India on the other side in presence of the Chief Minister MLA’s, Chief Secretary, and Commissioner (Hr& Tech Edn), Manipu. Altogeher eight points were discussed and a mutual understanding was arrived at .

During the meeting university representatives alleged irregularities in admistration and misappropriation of funds by the Vice Chancellor amongst, others .

It was decided that the fact finding committee will now be reconstituted with T.Nandakumar Singh, former Acting Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court and two official members in the existing fact finding committee would also be replaced by a retired VC of an University who would be mutually acceptable to both the parties.

It was also agreed that the relevant order for the reconstitution of the fact finding committee as an independent enquiry committee shall be issued Friday.

The joint meeting also decided that during the period of inquiry and until follow up action taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority the VC would be on leave for 15 days. The Registrar of the university will be the Nodal officer of the Enquiry Committee.

After the meeting , it was announced that the ongoing agitation shall be temporarily suspended till the issue of official order, as mutually agreed upon by both the parties in the interest of the public in general and the students in particular.
